Hello, darlings. Hope you’re all well. I am *trying* to be well. But i will be needing some aid. Folks with money crowd-fund their vacations and films, well a broke marginalized bitch need help with her new business.
Background:
As some of you know, im a tattoo artist. What some of you may not know is I am currently in the process of opening up a little studio of my own because while clientele has welcomed me with open arms, the all-white-male run tattoo shop owners here have not. It is very hard for poc to break into this biz, especially when youre a black girl.
(I can count the number of black girls i have heard of tattooing on one hand with fingers to spare and know of only one with a shop of her own in NOLA. so we are super rare in this industry.)
Thanks to some amazing people who loaned me some money in good faith and what little savings i could scrape up, i was able to get most of what i need to start my own studio,
Problem:
BUT the loans werent enough and I am the broke mom of a preschooler. I still have heath department licenses, permits, among other shit to work out and its gonna take aprox. $1,000 more to cover that, which i do not currently have. i am thiiiiiiis close. (yall know poor folk aint sposed to be able to have shit)
I am in a bind because whether or not i can open, i will need to pay rent/utilities for the shop *and* my own apt by the end of the month so ima need to get up and running asap. once i can do that, it wont be hard to keep everything up. but i cant make money til i have the rest of the money. the trap of capitalism. sigh
